Job Description

The Senior Buyer / Materials Planner is responsible for managing the planning and procurement of components to support production schedules and overall supply chain performance. This role ensures materials are available in the correct quantities and timelines through MRP-driven planning, supplier coordination, and proactive inventory management. The position plays a key role in minimizing supply risk, maintaining data integrity, and supporting on-time delivery and operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

  • Execute MRP-based purchasing and planning activities to support production requirements
  • Monitor planning signals, maintain planning parameters, and manage reorder points, lead times, and minimum order quantities
  • Issue and manage purchase orders, track open orders, and coordinate delivery schedules with suppliers
  • Proactively manage inventory levels, identify supply risks, and expedite materials as needed to prevent production disruptions
  • Partner cross-functionally with production planning, operations, logistics, and suppliers to support demand changes and forecast updates
  • Monitor supplier performance and escalate recurring delivery, capacity, or quality issues
  • Support new product launches and product discontinuations by managing material transitions and minimizing excess or obsolete inventory
  • Maintain accurate ERP data related to item setup, lead times, safety stock, and planning parameters
  • Assist with invoice discrepancies, receiving issues, and coordination with accounting and accounts payable
  • Provide oversight or backup support for expediting activities to ensure continuity of supply
  • Participate in regular planning and supply review meetings and contribute to continuous improvement efforts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in buying, materials planning, or supply chain management
  • Strong ERP/MRP system expertise
  • Proven ability to manage suppliers, inventory, and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Certifications such as APICS/CPIM/CSCP preferred
